Ambitious global climate goals are boosting the strong renewables trend, and energy companies are looking for new ways to tap into the potential of solar and wind power and still deliver reliable, affordable and safe power. So far, the intermittency of renewables has presented an obstacle to their everyday energy use (also known as baseload). With the advent of utility-scale energy storage solutions and hybrid energy systems, a sophisticated management system is needed to manage and balance renewables, energy storage and traditional thermal generation, minimizing fossil fuels and maximizing renewables.
Today, energy producers are turning to system integrators like Wärtsilä and Greensmith to combine multiple generation assets, balance loads and optimize the energy produced. Traditional power plants are increasingly replaced by energy systems combining multiple energy production methods and assets, integrated and governed with an advanced energy management system.
This new way of producing energy calls for a new way of thinking: instead of mere equipment providers, energy companies need system integrators, who are capable of not only combining multiple generation assets but optimizing them in relation to each other. In addition to analyzing and balancing loads, an integrator can bring in additional data streams such as load forecasts and weather data, as well as the ability to run multiple applications. The end result needs to be more than merely the sum of its parts.
Greensmith Energy is delighted to participate at ESNA, and we have a lot to offer attendees at our booth – notably around our portfolio of solutions that are currently helping our customer base move towards the 100% renewable energy vision. We will be highlighting our latest wins in Portugal, Hungary, Texas, and Virginia, showcasing our expertise across various energy storage applications. Attendees that stop by the booth will also receive a free Greensmith t-shirt.
Event panel: Future-proofing Energy Storage Investments
In addition to our booth, you can touch base with thought leaders from Greensmith Energy. Catch Logan Goldie-Scot, Energy Storage Insight Bloomberg New Energy Finance, Andy Tang, SVP of Business Development at Greensmith Energy, and Karim Wanzi Managing Director at Younicos for a timely panel discussion around risk management. This session will examine how to plan long-term energy storage investments in a time of changing markets. Panelists will weigh in on how developers and investors alike can address and mitigate multiple financial risks related to storage projects, including possibilities of market saturation, changing use cases, changing markets and valuation of services, and any new regulatory policy.
Site Tour: AltaGas Pomona Energy Storage Site
Working in close partnership with AltaGas, Greensmith set an industry record in the design, integration and installation of a state-of-the-art energy storage system in under four months – in response to the Aliso Canyon gas shortage. Greensmith’s multi-application software platform is being leveraged for Resource Adequacy along with additional select grid operations to create additional revenue streams over time.

The AltaGas facility reflects close collaboration of many leaders in the energy storage space, including Samsung, Parker Hannifin and Greensmith. On this ESNA-hosted site tour, attendees will have the opportunity to interact with AltaGas staff and view the energy storage installation.
