WORCESTER, Mass. — SaskPower – the principal electricity utility for Saskatchewan, Canada – has issued a request for proposals (RFP) through its wholly owned subsidiary NorthPoint Energy Solutions (NorthPoint) seeking 500 MW of firm capacity and energy in a solicitation process administered by Daymark Energy Advisors. The RFP is available on BidNet Direct. SaskPower is committed to achieving a net-zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions power system by 2050 or earlier -- while maintaining a GHG emissions reduction target of at least 50 percent below 2005 levels by 2030. To achieve these emission reductions, SaskPower is pursuing several options including working with independent power producers to develop significant renewable generation additions in Saskatchewan. The utility has also announced an increase of interconnection capacity between Saskatchewan and the Southwest Power Pool (SPP). Expanding transmission capacity with the SPP will enhance reliability, resilience, and flexibility of SaskPower’s system and complement future renewable generation in Saskatchewan. As part of the RFP, NorthPoint is seeking proposals sourced from facilities currently in-service or to be constructed in the SPP footprint, including renewable resources slated to be in-service by January 1, 2029. Proposals will be evaluated primarily on their ability to contribute to SaskPower’s reliability and clean energy objectives while maintaining cost effectiveness.
