Ampacimon has launched its GridVisor sensor technology with a major utility in upstate New York. GridVisor sensors are equipped with advanced mechanical and electrical sensing and analytics capabilities to detect vegetation contact, downed conductors, and automatically report field conditions back into a utility’s SCADA system. GridVisor sensors are designed to improve grid reliability (SAIDI/SAIFI) by identifying electrical fault locations, expediting fault restoration time, and prevent conditions that lead to electrically induced wildfires.
The sensors are deployed on all three phases of electric lines up to 69 kV phase-to-ground voltage, are powered through line induction and equipped with an 8-hour battery backup for continuous monitoring and communications after the fault occurs.
