Thought leaders from the emerging Utility Imagery & Inspection (I&I) space will gather for the 2-day Summit in Phoenix, AZ. Day one of the conference will feature workshops from the corresponding Centers of Excellence that will enable participants to walk away with actionable next steps in the deployment of their utility I&I program, particularly in the areas of asset inspection, storm response, vegetation management, and wildfire mitigation. Day two will be filled with a worldwide speaker lineup of leaders in the I&I space that will share best practices, collaborate on identifying key challenges, and focus on driving business value with their I&I programs.
Kicking off the two-day event will be Keynote Speaker Jordan Evans. As an Aerospace Engineer, he has successfully faced the challenges of the design, development, and leadership of complex space systems that range from UV telescopes to gravitational wave detectors and from the Hubble Space Telescope instruments to the Curiosity Rover on Mars. For his work on the Mars Science Lab Curiosity Project, Evans received the NASA Outstanding Leadership Medal, one of our nation’s highest civilian honors.
Regularly called upon to lead the investigation of mission-impacting problems, Evans brings a healthy mix of technical experience, leadership skills, and humor to otherwise uncomfortable situations. He has received numerous awards for his leadership and ability to balance risk effectively. Evans is currently responsible for leading the team developing a mission to explore Jupiter’s Ocean Moon, Europa. This exciting flagship NASA mission will carry a suite of eight cutting-edge scientific instruments to explore Europa, widely regarded as the most likely place in the solar system beyond Earth to have life.
Previously, Evans led the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory's engineering and science workforce as it accomplished the full spectrum of science and engineering challenges from fundamental research through the development of the next generation of advanced robotic systems for the exploration of our universe, such as the Perseverance Rover and Ingenuity Mars Helicopter. Evans has shared his experiences with the national and international media and as a speaker at numerous conferences, including TEDx. Additionally, Evans participates with the National Academy of Sciences’ "Science & Entertainment Exchange" and is a science consultant for major motion pictures and television shows.
Highlights from last year’s inaugural symposium included participating utilities from the U.S., Canada, and Australia, including Ameren, Avista, Dominion, Endeavour Energy, Essential Energy, Nova Scotia Power, Oncor, SDCEA, TECO, the City of Waco, TX.
Ken Maness, Vice President of TMG Research and UIIC Executive Director, added, “We’re thrilled to have Jordan Evans with us to share his perspective on correlations between work he’s done at NASA, and the challenges utilities are currently facing in the imagery & inspection space.”
Registration for the inaugural UIIC Summit will occur through the event's start on January 17th, and details can be found HERE.
