01/26/22 – Arlington, VA - ElectroTempo, the leading planning software for electric fleet charging networks, emerged from stealth and announced today a pre-seed investment of $1 million. The funding round was led by Schematic Ventures, a San Francisco-based venture capital firm with a focus on supply chain technology. ElectroTempo will use the proceeds from this round to grow the team and expand ongoing customer pilots.
ElectroTempo was founded by leaders in the transportation and the utility sectors:
⦁ CEO Dr. Ann Xu - Dr. Xu is a nationally recognized expert on transportation and energy. She has led the development of multiple widely used models and software platforms at the Texas A&M Transportation Institute, U.S. Department of Energy’s Advanced Research Projects Agency (ARPA-E), and the Georgia Institute of Technology.
⦁ COO Mr. Patrick Finch - Mr. Finch joins ElectroTempo from Booz Allen Hamilton, where he was technology commercialization adviser and manager of impact analysis team at ARPA-E. Mr. Finch has guided numerous ARPA-E teams to commercial success, many of which raised multiple rounds of VC funding.
ElectroTempo spun off from the Texas A&M Transportation Institute after developing a cutting-edge charging demand simulation model. This team draws on years of experience in transportation modeling and energy technology commercialization through their work at the Advanced Research Projects Agency – Energy (ARPA-E) and Mr. Finch’s work at Booz Allen Hamilton with utility, federal, and state government clients.
Dr. Xu highlighted the driving force behind ElectroTempo’s solutions as a need for a coherent infrastructure investment strategy based on sound data and modeling. Xu said,
“My years of academic and government research have shown that limiting global warming below 2˚C means accelerated EV deployment for both household and commercial vehicles. While vehicle and battery technologies are largely solved, the transportation industry and the electric power industry remain siloed and uncoordinated, posing a key challenge in large-scale vehicle electrification. I decided to break down this industry silo by assembling cross-sector datasets, models, and talents. We have a limited time window to democratize our expertly curated data analytics, not only for market share, but also for the necessary climate impact. That's why we decided to launch the company and to raise funds from investors that share this vision and ambition with us. We are very fortunate to have found such a partnership with Schematic Ventures.”
ElectroTempo’s customers gain granular EV electricity demand insights through its web-based platform. The platform allows customers a range of views of existing and needed infrastructure based on projected future EV demand, and allows customers tailored views based on their own proprietary data. ElectroTempo’s predictive analytics provide system-wide demand projections under customizable scenarios, ensuring sound planning for grid reliability and capacity growth. John Hall, CEO of the Houston Advanced Research Center and current member of ElectroTempo’s advisory board, said,
"The transition away from fossil-fuels to Electric Vehicles (EVs) is currently one of the largest infrastructure problems we are facing as a society. Given the sensitivity of the climate challenge, the time to meaningfully address it is decreasing rapidly. ElectroTempo's analytics solutions are the best option to significantly accelerate the transition to electric vehicles that I have seen to date, giving decision-makers throughout the public and private sectors a cost-effective and dynamic way to optimize their EV infrastructure investments."
ElectroTempo works today with federal, state and local government clients, as well as utility companies, NGOs, charging infrastructure vendors and fleet owners and operators. Chris George, Executive Director of EVolve Houston, a Houston-area industry-government-academic coalition, said,
"ElectroTempo is the backbone of Rise Houston, Houston's Regional Infrastructure Strategy for Electrification. We're working with the ElectroTempo team to better understand our region's needs and ensure there is adequate charging for all Houstonians today and in the future. We couldn't be more thrilled with the platform and its capabilities."
Julian Counihan, General Partner at Schematic, said: "Beyond being one of the smartest and hard-working founders I've ever met, Ann and her team are among the top transportation data scientists in the country. We were thrilled to lead their pre-seed round and support their mission to transform supply chain transportation."
