Dive Brief:
- November was a big month for wind in the Electric Reliability Council of Texas, making up 15.1% of generation in the territory, according to new data on the region's generation mix reported by Platts.
- Wind generators produced 3.7 million MWh in November — the most since April 2013 — and so far this year have generated 33,216,441 Mwh of ERCOT's power.
- So far this year natural gas and coal have produced the bulk of ERCOT's generatoin, at 129 million MWh and 114 million MWh respectively, followed by nuclear with about 35 million MWh.
Dive Insight:
In a system planning monthly status report released last week, ERCOT said it is currently tracking 239 active generation interconnection requests totaling over 62,800 MW — including over 24,100 MW of wind generation.
Wind had a big month in November, producing more power than in any month so far this year. Nuclear made up 11.6% of ERCOT's power in November, while natural gas was around 40% and coal was 34%.
Installed wind capacity in ERCOT's system currently totals 11,703 MW, with 10,023 MW being Non-Coastal and 1,680 MW Coastal. ERCOT is currently reviewing proposed transmission improvements with a total cost of $495.1 Million, and in 2014 endorsed transmission projects totaling $788.5 Million.
