Among them are European countries leading the way in electricity transformations.The first quarter of 2013, Portugal sourced 70 percent of its electricity from renewables. "That’s three straight months of outsize production from hydropower (37 percent) and wind (27 percent) with a small contribution from solar," Greentech Media reports.
• In Germany, "private citizens are responsible for over a third of the wind and solar capacity in Germany. Add the share owned by farmers, with their tracts of land ripe for renewables, and the result is a clean energy market by the people, for the people."
