Dive Brief:
- The power used at the Super Bowl will be backed by renewable energy credits that will be bought by New Jersey utility company Public Service Enterprise Group.
- PSEG expects to buy credits covering the 4,000 MWh to 6,000 MWh expected to be used at MetLife Stadium in northern New Jersey before and during the Super Bowl.
Dive Insight:
“Some people hear New Jersey, and they only think of ‘The Sopranos,’” said Ralph LaRossa, president and chief operating officer of Public Service Electric and Gas president and CEO. “Now we’re going to be able to show them we’ve got solar farms on top of old landfills and get the message out to the rest of the country about how far in the lead New Jersey is with renewable solar energy.”
Don't tell tough guy Tony Soprano about this but LaRossa is right. New Jersey has 1,118 MW of installed solar and about 466 MW in the project pipeline, according to the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities' Office of Clean Energy. Perhaps it's time to put solar panels on the Bada Bing!
