Sewage treatment plants in areas served by electric cooperatives often are among the co-ops' largest industrial accounts, but under certain conditions they can also be a reliable source of renewable energy.
According to a new report from NRECA's Cooperative Research Network, the 2,136 wastewater treatment facilities located in co-op territory represent a potential 445 MW of base-load renewable generation.
