Dive Insight:
The deal by the Southern Co. unit and billionaire media mogul Ted Turner is the sixth such partnership on solar projects between the two companies. They formed the partnership in 2010 and have projects in North Carolina, Nevada and New Mexico as well as two in California. While Southern Co. sees the value of renewables as assets in its wholesale generation business, the parent company has resisted calls for its regulated utilities to offer customers incentives to install solar distributed generation.
