Dive Insight:
RES this week announced its sixth utility-scale energy storage project, a 6 MW lithium ion battery being constructed for Sumitomo. Willey Battery Storage will be located in Hamilton, Ohio, and will include three containers of lithium ion batteries manufactured by Toshiba, and three inverter units manufactured by Parker Hannifin.
RES said it expects to begin construction this month and substantially complete the project by the end of the year.
The company said the facility will provide frequency regulation service to PJM, while the monitoring, dispatch and control of the system will be handled by the RESolve energy storage platform, a proprietary technology developed by RES Americas.
"The Willey Battery Storage project marks RES' continued commitment to the energy storage market," Victor Babbitt, vice president of energy storage for RES Americas, said in a statement. "Our continued success speaks volumes to the capabilities and future of our company. We look forward to using energy storage to help utilities and customers meet the challenges of the changing electrical grid in a cost-effective manner."
Including its newest announcement, RES has 55.6 MW and 27.3 MWh of energy storage either in operation or under construction.
