Dive Brief:
- The New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (BPU) rejected a financial plan for a 25-MW offshore wind farm, a turn around in the state's attitude towards offshore wind.
- BPU staff recommended that the project be rejected because it would cost too much.
- Fishermen's Energy, the project developer, plans to appeal the decision in court.
Dive Insight:
In 2008, under former Democratic Gov. John Corzine, New Jersey had a goal of adding 3,000 MW of wind in the state. The state's current energy plan calls for 1,100 MW of offshore wind. Looks like the state is changing its tune on its offshore wind policy. A BPU spokesman declined to comment to the Philadelphia Enquirer, never a good sign.
