• We Energies cannot shut down its 431 megawatt Presque Isle coal-fired power plant in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, the Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO) has said.
• The plant is needed for regional reliability, MISO said. We Energies is discussing with MISO how much it should  be compensated for continuing to operate the plant.

We Energies wants to close the plant because it lost 85% of its demand when the operator of two iron ore mines and some other large customers left. The mines operated by Cliffs Resources did not go out of business; they took advantage of Michigan's limited retail competition regime to switch to Integrys Energy Services.
