The SGDP is a program intended to demonstrate the costs and benefits of technology upgrades for electric cooperatives and their members. In 2010, the Cooperative Research Network, the research arm of the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association, received a $33.9 million matching grant from the DOE to study the benefits of an array of new technologies for more than 700,000 consumers in 12 states.
