After reviewing the results of a long-term study, Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) is forecasting the potential of electricity shortages in Texas in the next 10 years.
ERCOT's target electric generation reserve margin is 13.75%. However, the study forecasts that this margin could drop to 9.8% as early as 2014.
By 2015, projected reserves drop to 6.9%, with 76,623 MW of resources available to serve peak demand of 71,692 MW.
A negative reserve margin is projected by 2022.
