Meta has agreed to purchase all energy output from ENGIE North America’s 260-MW Sypert Branch solar project in Texas when it comes online in late 2025, the companies announced Thursday.
The project is located in Milam County, Texas, and will supply power to a Meta data center 10 miles away in Temple.
The power purchase agreement adds to “the more than 12 GW of renewable energy procurement already announced by Meta,” ENGIE said in a release. Meta has so far contracted energy from 75 solar projects and 21 wind projects, according to its website.
In August, Meta struck a similar deal with RWE to purchase 374 MW of solar power under development, as well as a deal with Sage Geosystems to purchase up to 150 MW of geothermal energy to power its data center growth.
“This power purchase agreement with Meta contributes to ENGIE closing almost 1 GW of signed PPAs in the U.S. for 2024” to date, ENGIE said.
ENGIE currently has a portfolio of around 8 GW of renewable projects in operation or construction across North America, including solar, wind and battery storage, the company said.
Meta is a founding member of a data center flexibility initiative announced this week by the Electric Power Research Institute, along with Google, NVIDIA, Compass Datacenters, QTS Data Centers and several electric utilities.
“We continue to work alongside our peers and utility providers to advance new opportunities for digital infrastructure,” said Bryce Dalley, director of commercial energy supply at Meta, in a release about the initiative’s launch. “Efforts like EPRI’s DCFlex initiative are critical to these cross-industry efforts.”
