Dive Brief:
- Electricite de France (EDF) Renewable Energy is buying a 200-megawatt wind farm under development in the Texas Panhandle for an undisclosed price. According to estimates by the Alternative Energy Institute at West Texas A&M University, it costs about $2 million per megawatt of capacity to build an average wind farm.
- The Longhorn Wind Project is being built by RES Americas. Construction on the project will begin this year and therefore will qualify for the federal production tax credit.
Dive Insight:
The latest purchase by the U.S. unit of French utility EDF brings to 561 megawatts the amount of capacity it owns in the Panhandle area of Texas. Earlier this year, EDF bought the 161-MW Spinning Spur II Wind Project and the 200-MW Hereford Wind Project.
