Dive Brief:
- Duke Energy Carolinas asked North Carolina regulators on Friday to let it offer large power users to offset some of their needs with renewable power.
- The three-year pilot program would let data centers, manufacturers, college campuses and other large electricity consumers to have their load offset with energy bought from a renewable project or renewable energy certificates.
Dive Insight:
The pilot program is similar to Duke's NC GreenPower program for residential customers. It will give Duke an idea of commercial and industrial customers' willingness to buy into using renewable power even at a premium and make it easier to plan for future generation.
