Duke Energy Chief Financial Officer Lynn Good will upgrade her title next month to replace Jim Rogers as the company's new CEO.
Rogers' retirement, effective as of July 1, comes after the North Carolina Utilities Commission reached an agreement with Duke last November to see him leave this year. Regulators pushed hard on the company after its merger with Progress Energy, which brought about the quick ousting of CEO Bill Johnson to make way for Rogers.
So will the Good era involve even more mergers and acquisitions?
"The business case for consolidation in this industry remains," Good said, according to an Associated Press report. "We will look at opportunities as they arise."
Rogers will stay on as board chairman at Duke until the end of 2013, though Good will gain a seat on the board when she assumes her new duties in July.
