Dive Brief:
- DTE Energy has announced it will buy the 75 MW Pheasant Run II wind park from a subsidiary of NextEra Energy.
- DTE will also buy power generated by a neighboring wind park, Pheasant Run I, which will still be owned by NextEra's subsidiary.
- The wind park will be renamed "Brookfield Wind Park," and will close for a couple of weeks for rebranding and communications systems switch-overs, before resuming normal output.
Dive Insight:
DTE Energy has been expanding its wind portfolio for some time, diversifying its options between utility-owned generation and PPA agreements with other generators. It also puts the utility on track to meet Michigan state's Renewables Portfolio Standard, which expects all utilities to generate at least 10% of their power via renewable resources by 2015.
