Dive Summary:
- In its effort to realize the Obama Administration’s climate action plan, the U.S. Department of Energy (DEO) announced a draft loan guarantee for up to $8 billion to support innovative and advanced fossil fuel energy projects that reduce, avoid or sequester greenhouse gases (GHGs) and other air pollutants.
- The solicitation helps fund a range of technologies for fossil energy projects and advanced resource development including gas and oil drilling, coal-bed methane recovery and underground coal gasification.
- Fossil energy project include development and extraction, carbon capture, low-carbon power systems and efficiency improvements that reduce emissions of carbon dioxide, methane and other GHGs.
From the draft solicitation:
While initial eligibility will ultimately be evaluated on a project by project basis, DOE anticipates qualifying projects may include, but are not limited to, the following:
--Coal or natural gas oxycombustion;
--Chemical looping processes;
--Hydrogen turbines; and
--Synthesis gas, natural gas, or hydrogen based fuel cells.
