Last month, the Illinois Commerce Commission ordered ComEd to increase its energy efficiency savings. The ICC told ComEd to use smart meters to help wring out more energy savings.
"An accelerated deployment of smart meters in Chicago will provide more residents with the opportunity to conserve electricity and save money," Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel said. "A modern, high-tech electric infrastructure is essential for Chicago's global economic competitiveness."
