Dive Brief:
- Austin Energy will buy the output from a 300-MW wind farm to be built in Texas by Lincoln Renewable Energy.
- The contract replaces a 170-MW wind power purchase agreement with E.ON Climate & Renewables, which backed out of the contract over tax and financing issues.
- The new contract is about $2/MWh cheaper than the E.ON contract, which was in the low end of the $28/MWh to $38/MWh range.
Dive Insight:
Austin Energy's latest wind deal is another example of utilities loading up on wind. The municipal utility was able to roughly double the E.ON contract for $2/MWh less. Sounds like a good deal.
