Ameren Corp. has joined Westinghouse Electric Co. in a bid for recently announced federal research money for small modular reactors.
Last month, the Department of Energy said it would invest up to $452 million to support engineering, design certifications and operating licenses for up to two SMR designs over five years.
The DOE wants the U.S. to become the global leader in the technology.
