Dive Brief:

• Germanenergy storage software developer Younicos won 75 MW of energy storage contracts in 2016, which the company says is 400% increase over its 2015 bookings.

• The company says it now has 200 MW of systems installed or under construction.

• In all, the company, which was founded in Berlin and also has offices in Austin, Texas, says it has a “qualified” pipeline of deals totaling 1.2 GW over the next two years.

Dive Insight:

Younicos’ bookings this year were boosted by the award in December of a 49-MW battery energy storage systems at the site of the former Roosecote coal- and gas-fired power stations in Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria, U.K.

The system, which will be owned by distribution company Centrica, is scheduled to enter service in the winter of 2018.

Over the past year, Younicos signed its first orders for its plug-and-play Y Cube storage product in both the U.S. and U.K. for use in solar + storage and the commercial and industrial market.

“I'm most pleased by the fact that we continue to lead the industry as battery storage moves beyond grid-scale use cases to now be embraced by downstream energy users, such as commercial and industrial (C&I) clients," Younicos CEO Stephen Prince said in a statement. 

The company did not say how much of the 1.2 GW of business is potential as compared with actual signed contracts.
