Dive Insight:
A new law being considered in Idaho would allow owners of electric vehicle charging stations to resell power. But Idaho is not a heavy adopter of electric vehicles, the Times-News reports, with about 175 vehicles registered in the state.
Idaho Power, which discussed the measure at a House state affairs committee recently, offers a time of day variable pricing rate for EV charging.
The company is "preparing for accelerated consumer adoption of EVs."
Four years ago, President Obama proposed having a million EVs on U.S. roads by the end of this year , but there are only about 30% of those in operation. Global revenue from EV charging equipment is expected to grow from $81 million today to $2.9 billion by 2023 and annual U.S. sales of workplace charging systems will reach over 63,000 by 2020, according to Navigant Research.
